The realm of flash games has always been a pretty limited medium.
ReplyDeleteNormally, they are made up of little time wasters,
small gameplay ideas that can be explored within an hour or two of play
. Not that there is anything wrong with this. It's nice to be able to pop a few bloons tower defense 5, spank a few monkeys,
or defend a castle when you have a little time between appointments,
in a little computer window that can be closed in case a boss or a teacher walks by.
But every once in a while, some crazy fool puts much more effort behind a flash game than ever thought possible.
That's when you get a game like Super Smash Flash 2.
super smash flash 2 is, as it's name suggests, a sequel.
The original Super Smash Flash, like most flash games, was a neat little diversion,
but not much more. There was a two button attack system, and you used one of them to jump.
Unfortunately, the controls and stages were spotty, at best. Still,
it was pretty ambitious to try and emulate the manic and fast paced fun of a Smash Bros game in flash form.
The game was playable, and fun, especially if you could get a friend to join you. Better yet,
since it was a free flash game, the creators were free to put whatever characters they pleased into the fray,
and they did exactly that. Sure, a lot of Smash Bros mainstays were there
(Mario, Luigi, Link, Kirby), but there was also other characters put in,
from Megaman, to Tails, to Crono and Cloud. It was fully featured, too,
complete with a single player adventure mode and challenge missions, and an interface the imitated the Smash Bros.
